An estimated 1.1 billion people worldwide will have experienced menopause by 2025. Physical and emotional symptoms can last for years and significantly disrupt daily life — but are rarely discussed at work, at home, or even at the doctor’s office.

To better understand the impact of menopause at work, Carrot conducted a survey of 1,000 women in the U.S. currently going through perimenopause or menopause or who completed menopause within the last five years.

We found that the vast majority of respondents did not feel adequately prepared for menopause, symptoms interfered with their work, and very few — just 8% — received significant support from their employer. Nearly half have considered changing jobs to find remote work so they can better manage symptoms, and 22% have considered retiring early.

Women between the ages of 45 and 54 make up 20% of the female workforce, and many are senior leaders at their companies. Read the full report for insights on how menopause symptoms may be impacting them and how employers can help — and hold on to some of their most valuable employees.
